Do you know a lot of people who are going to college for graphic design or who want to be graphic designers? Of those people, how many of them do you consider to be talented in this area?

by graphic design I mean visual communications, like making logos, flyers, web pages, etc. I don't mean illustration.

Yes. Too many dummies out there who think that they can actually get a job drawing. They need to get a marketable degree instead of one that won't put food on the table!

Just to clear something up...from the first post. Graphic Design is not about if you can draw or not. That is the least important in the field. As for if there are too many people trying out for it...I don't think so because it's a field that will continue to grow so the more people that there are with a degree in it the better at this point.

I would say maybe 5% of them are actually talented. With today's software programs, many people don't think they need any actual skill because the programs do all the work. But you still have to direct the program toward a particular idea or design. They might make it through and get a degree, but just wait until they come across an employer whose application process requires they to draw something freehand on demand. I hear many companies are going that way because of all the wannabes.

With your clarification there are ZILLIONS of people who think they can do that. And I think what you really mean is desktop publishing.

well i was going to go to college for graphic design until i found out that all the schools here are private that actually let you take it. I believe i'm better than 80% of people. not trying to brag haha.
