A lot of similarities, a lot of differences. If we apply history to the future we can prevent disasters. I'm curious to know what you guys think and why.

A military driven superpower... with a head of state with more authority than initially granted... a legislative body who's sole purpose is to approve the leader's agenda... a vast cultural influence in the world... greatly separated social classes... mishandling of economy... military actions with little to no success but many deaths, causing the draining of the national treasury. These apply both to the Roman Empire and The United States.

Over time, the great empire broke off into warring nation states, splitting up due to outside influences driving a wedge between Rome and its outlying provinces. However, one of the most eerie theories on the fall of Rome is this:

Looking to annex all of the known world, Rome made sacrifices to its own set of morals, allowing FOREIGNERS (immigrants) to enter the empire to work and live as citizens. The great increase of minorities led to the direct widening of the social class gap... look at the Russian revolution or the French revolution... when the classes get to far apart, there is resentment and eventually action taken.

The US will fall, maybe not now, or not in the near future, but as long as the middle class continues to fade away, as long as we get ourselves stuck in hopeless foreign military affairs, as long as we pretend like we're the only nation out there, America will eventually crumble and the great empire will meet the same fate as Rome did.

I think it would mean a lot of other countries will fall first. It really would take a world war on the USA to have the kind of force required. There would be a couple of attacks on us before we took notice. Any missles lanched would put us on deathcon 5. Once this happens it takes someone to stop the missle lanches. It is on a countdown and has to have someone to either drop back to level 4 or reset the timer or they launch, so all the people in the USA could all be dead and the world would still end. How many countries have nukes that are able to make it to the USA and how many of each does each of these countries have? How many do we have? No one wins.

I understand where you are comming from because like in Rome they crumbled from the inside. Which allowed an outside force to attack and over power them. They had let down their gaurd and did not see it comming. That is happening here.

If by chance someone was able to find all 100,000 US made nuclear missles and shut them down. Who is going to stop all the subs that will come back up after it's 72 hour wait? They will come back on line and if they do not get the all clear they launch. Planes will be in the air at level 1 and at level 5 all planes will be in the air.

I really don't think there would be a world left after the USA crumbles. It would have to be a war from within which would mean a dictator would take over and if say the leader of Iran ruled over the USA how long do you think the world would last? He would bully everyone and the world war 3 would forsure start then.

I bet you are saying to your self "boy this guy is a nut case" but am I really? What do you think would happen? We have air planes that we don't even know about. Wepions that we don't know about. Our government will never let go of it's power. They would even attack the US public to hang on to it.

Possibly. One of the biggest reasons for the downfall of the Roman Empire was the divisions that grew among the people within it. This eventually led to extreme apathy on the part of both the citizens and the military. In addition, people lost the the idea of there being a Roman citizen, preferring to coalesce into smaller groups based on ethnicity and culture. Divisions within the US are something the political left is actively seeking through multiculturalism - if they have their way we will follow the same path.

I think it would be possible. We can learn a lot from history b/c (and I know it's a clique) history does repeat itself.

And if the leaders of our country had studied the history of the middle east & the culture there, they would not have been so surprised that there is an insurgency in Iraq and the war is still going strong.

If we don't start looking at the mistakes of the past, we too will crumble like the ancient civilations of Rome, Egypt, Greece, China, ect....

I hope we learn our lesson soon & pick up the history books. +

Yes, but the reasons maybe outside of what you've considered are the typical problems. You haven't added in the amount that energy is now in the equation.

Today we have to fix the excess & the energy problem. This is new history. It may surprice you, but the solution for the energy crisis calls for living at a higher standard of living. It also takes 2 international governments to enable it. The energy problem won't be fixed. Expect the economy of 1850 by the year 2050.

Love feedback.

Not likely. Te US became the strongest power on the globe for two reasons: resources, and more importantly, public policies of administration which have little reason for change. Correspondingly, I am optimistic about the future of the USA.

Absolutely. Don't forget the collapse of the British empire either, that's more recent.

The massive power that the US has right now will fade when other areas surpass them, such as the far east. My bets are on China being the major superpower within the next 40 years. Then after that maybe it's the turn of Africa again.
