I have seen the movie and it is basically the story of how America was created in the eyes of a Klu Klux Clan leader. So it has a lot of stereotypes and racist views about what makes the country great. Many people (film buffs, students, critics, etc) feel that it is a classic as it was the first film to have a complete story based in realism as opposed to a comedy. It also used a lot of film making methods that made it groundbreaking at the time. I watched it to form my own opinion, as to the quality, etc and so should you. It remains true that for a large part of American history, the majority of those who considered themselves American held these views and it should be remembered if just to remind ourselves of how far we come... and how far we have left to go.

I have seen it, wouldn't watch it today however. But was a must see movie in school in the 60's to show us what it was like back then. Briliant in what it shows, racist in what the story is about. Again, being a silent film from about 1916, it shows more then other silent films of it's time do.

I think it is a racist propaganda film. The only brilliance is how it demonstrated at such an early stage in film history, how easy it is to manipulate & control people with visual propaganda.

Yes I have seen it, its brilliant for its day, remember its silent movie made around 1916,and therefore portrayed the views at that time.

For its time, it was a masterpiece and reveals actually how little we are different today; we might be more subtle, but the racism persists... perpetuated by hate.
