What are the effects of ingesting blood? what are the physical effects? Does the blood survive digestion?

I am looking for the physical effects blood consumtion has on the human body. Also any mental aspects of blood drinking are important as well. If you know of a good place to begin looking for the medical revalence of vampirism, real medical theories please, let me know I have hit a wall. THANX

Injesting blood shouldn't do anything to you. I read about this family that tried to escape China on a boat and ran out of food, so the parents cut their own fingers and let their children suck the blood to survive. Mentally, who knows. BUT remember that some people do like their meat to have blood in it. Ick.
