Certain groups are ALWAYS disenfranchised: aliens, convicts, the young and so forth are still disenfranchised. The question is not why certain groups are NOT allowed rights; the question is why so many unworthy groups ARE allowed rights.
Why do people who pay no taxes get a say in how taxes are spent?
Why do people who do not go to war get a say in when we will go to war?
Why do people who have already benefited from a program get to discontinue it when they no longer need it?
The power to vote is the ultimate authority, and in this country, it is bandied about indiscriminately to people who barely understand the awesome responsibility it entails.
