music charts tell you how certain artists, albums, or songs rank among different genres of music.
for example, as of right now, the #1 hot dance single is Shut Me Up, by Mindless Self Indulgence.
(i would stop to listen to them sometime, by the way. they're a bit underground.)

Music charts are charts that show the popularity of the music and the artists who perform it.
It shows the most listened to, the most requested, the most albums purchased, etc.
Its an idea of who's the "hottest" musician out or the best song out now as of current musical talent and songs.
