Why would you want to block wildlife from leaving you home? That really isn't fair to them. Try just enjoying them while they come and go and be happy that they do visit your yard. Put like a birdfeeder out and watch them feed. But they're wildlife, you don't mess with them

Well if they are pets that need space then set up a net suspended from tall posts that drapes all the way to the ground. Basically, it creates open air walls and a ceiling. But if you are talking about wild birds here then live and let live, wild animals don't do well in cages.
P.S You have to be careful about that method though because if the net is too loose they could get caught in it, you are probably better off just clipping wings.

Buy yourself an outdoor aviary and then buy yourself some zebra finch and parakeets and keep them out there in it. I have one the size of a dog kennel run I keep 6 parakeets in. I love it, it allows many wild birds to come see my birds and my wild birds here can come and go as they please. I would never pen them up because they have families they have to go take care of and I love visitor birds. They go out and tell other birds and pretty soon my entire back yard is full of birds of many breeds. I guess the bird seed and bread I throw out helps alot too. LOL! I do have 4 aviaries in my back yard and more wild birds then I do my own cockatiels, love birds, quakers and english budgies with my parakeets.

Try Memphis Netting company. Good fence and netting is the only way. What type of birds? You can clip wings (just ONE) to make it harder for them to fly. I recommend fencing/netting or penning birds, you will invite predators in or just be releasing birds into the wild, this may be illegal depending on what it is... for more info or specifics contact me through my websites at www.cbfsuperquail.com or www.cindasbluejerseygiants.com

If you're talking about a pet bird flying out into your back yard than have a professional show you how to clip his wings... If you're talking about wild birds, than they are not yours to keep and you shouldn't try to contain them
