You should look up a piece called "One Winged Angel" from the Final Fantasy series. It's about it's character Sephirot and it's dark, it's strong and it would sound amazing just before you start rocking!!!!!

How about the intro to Kronos Quartet's album, "Winter Was Hard"? Not really gothic sounding or pounding organs, but about as intense as anything Soundgarden has ever cranked out.
