Buy two thermometers - one celcius and one fahrenheit. Hold them up next to each other and compare.

The formulae to use are:

1. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit use:

C = 5/9(F-32)

C = 5/9*(48-32) = 8.9 (approx)

2. To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius use:

F = 9/5*C + 32
F = 9/5*18 + 32 = 64.4F

the long way

0 degrees celsius = 32 degrees fahrenheit (freezing point of water)

100 degress celsius = 212 degrees fahrenheit (boiling point of water)

you now have 2 points and can define a line

y = mx + b

let y = fahrenheit x = celsius

the y intercept is where x = 0 ... so ... its 32 = b

the slope m is (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

m = (212 - 32)/(100 - 0)

m = 180/100 = 1.8

so

F = 1.8*C + 32

you want c = f(F)

so

F - 32 = 1.8 * C

or

C = (F-32)/1.8

It's something like divide by 3/8th and add 32.

Hang on.

Celsius to Fahrenheit: (1.8*deg C)+32
Fahrenheit to Celsius: (5/9*deg F)-32

My first attempt was a guess.

Celsius to Fahrenheit.
1)Multiply the temperature in degrees Celsius by nine.
2)Divide the answer by five.
3)Add thirty two to the answer in 2)

Fahrenheit to Celsius
1)Subtract thirty two from the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
2) Divide the answer by nine.
3) Multiple the answer in 2) by five.

Now get out your calculator!

I don't know, but 212 degrees fahrenheit is 100 degrees celcius.
