It depends on the restaurant. Some places you could waitress as young as 16, while others want you to be 18.

Federal Law states you cannot serve alcohol unless you are at least 18 which pretty much covers any waitressing job you might get unless its at a Starbucks type establishment.

You could be a hostess at 16...some places will even hire at 14 for some types of jobs, but that is the minimum age allowed by federal law to work.

If it is a place that services alcohol you have to be at least 21 If it is a place where they do not server alcohol then it could be either 16 or 18 it all depends on the place.

In TX you have to be 18. You can Hostess at 16 and get Tipshare and hourly and that is pretty cool too!
