I used to be pretty pleased with Dell. I bought several hundred over the years. They didn't fail much, and the support was great. Their servers were/are rock-solid. However, lately I've been seeing a lot of quality control problems on their home systems. We're seeing several a day coming in with failed NICs, and multitudes of other hardware issues. I'd be a bit hesitant with Dell right now. You might consider Micron, or have a system custom-built.

Are Dell Computers Good

Dell seems to sell a pretty decent machine. We have a couple hundred at work, and they seem to be pretty reliable, we maybe need to replace a part every few weeks, but 8 times out of 10 the part is something like a keyboard. However, if you have any wish to upgrade your system in the future, I would advise against buying any brand name computer.

Furthermore, depending on how high-end of a system you want, it'd be more cost-effective to build your own. Entry level systems from dell will save you some cash, but once you start adding on to it, the markup shoots through the roof.

And to the person above that suggested an alienware, that company is owned by Dell, so that suggestion is kinda redundant.

I think that dell computers are over-rated, you get the least pc power for the buck. You can build or have a computer store build a pc for you that might cost $100 or $200 more, but be a far better system. Also in 3 or so years when you want to upgrade you can save on components. Spend $300 or so and have a brand "new" pc that will SLAUGHTER a dell for the same price.

The moral of the story, spend a bit more now, save A LOT later and have a better pc for your money.

I have a Dell laptop- an Inspiron B130 (pretty sure thats what it is, just read it off of the side of my computer haha) Anyways it seems to be pretty decent- havent had any problems really. And Dell gives great service when you do- I got a virus a month back, called Dell and they fixed everything pretty quick. Id recommend it- but I dont know much about computers.

I work in a computer store and Dell is the most common computer in with problems so I would say No. I would recommend Alienware, or Custome built if you want a really nice mechine.

i believe good can be classified on several levels.
is dell a good computer, with regards to reliability? probably so.
is dell a good computer, with regards to computability? it could be better.
dell systems are based on an intel pentium processor chip. in my personal research and hands on experience, amd is a superior chip.
hope this helps!

They're average in price and performance... AND they have the WORST reputation for customer NO-SERVICE!! I finally sent the one I bought back to Dell, and disputed the charge on my credit card.. NEVER AGAIN!!

Antirion is full of crap. one NIC broken does not mean dont get the product.. they make billions of PCs and satisfy Billions of customers every year.

Yes Dell is GOOD and affordable.
