Are you talking yahoo avatars? Or a drawn cartoon. If you are going to draw yourself as a cartoon do this:
1stly get a mirror study your face. What characteristics differ you from others? Bigger chin, smaller nose, large eyes, pointed ears. In a cartoon you just exaggerate what makes you stand out from others.

Go to your name on the side that you see with the cool smilie thing. Click your user. Then look again near it and click edit then go down to the pic thing. It will show you three options of pictures. The third one says about the cartoon and there should be a link. Use that link and it is self explanitory from there!

print a picture of yourself on an inkjet.
put it on a light table.
draw it on a new piece of paper that you put on top of the printed photo.
(maybe color it!)
you might want to mkae your head bigger, it's always funnier that way.
that's the ONLY way.

get a good pencil and paper put the pencil on the paper and draw! omg! is that amazing or what?!?!?
