In some states, Medicaid pays for nursing home care if the individual has less than $2000 in the bank. They can own their car and house. When my mom needed a nursing home, the sibling who had power of attorney distributed the cash and stock assets so my mom would be eligible. After Mom's death, we paid the money back to Medicaid once her house was sold. This was the best way for us to do it. It cost less to pay medicaid back than it would have been to pay for the nursing home "out of pocket" ($50000 vs 75000). Contact your local council on aging for assistance.

you first need to contact your local Department of human services. Where ever people go to get welfare in your state. That's what its called in Michigan. Anyway, they will direct you the commission on aging. It really all depends on the programs that are available. I used to be in the business of home health care, if you don't have insurance it's really hard to get help. They used to have a plan called medicare waiver program, I would ask if that is still available. Good luck and I wish you and your parents all the best.
