I think you are referring to " Brother Dave Garner" i am not sure he was Cajun , but he was definitely from the south. My parents had a couple of his "Ablums" as he called them. he also did ," is you gonna be heah when John gits heah?" he used a lot of the jargon of the era all right ," man Dem cats wuz sumpin else"cool cats and so on. I might have been Jerry Clower From Mississippi, but to the best of my memory i think it was Bro. Dave Garner.
