bill russell was a winner in grade school, high school, college and the nba....maybe its because he belongs to the era long time past but these people who think of others as the greatest never bother to look up russell's winning accomplishments.... and to those of you who chose chamberlain, you might want to check how russell dominated their encounters to wilt's frustration and you have the gall to choose wilt over rusell?....11 rings in 13 nba campaigns says it all and he even played in 12 finals....no player ever has ever achieved 12 finals in 13 seasons and to say no one will ever again is a safe bet....being great should never be about personal records, flashy plays, or scoring many points...it should be about winning and there is no bigger winner than the great Bill Russell

I think that Michael Jordan is the best basketball player ever because ever since I have played basketball he has been the number one person I look up to.

I saw many that Hoopfan mentions but I'd disagree and say that my answer, at least for players in the modern era, say the last 20 years, is Michael Jordan. I'd then have Larry Bird pipping Magic for a very close second.

All were great all-rounders and leaders with fantastic scorring and other talents but Jordan took the game to a completely new level.

Legendary Larry Bird
He was a pioneer for basket ball, great passing, unbelievable shot from outside the D a real team player without all the arrogance you see in the game these days

Tough decision, but it has to be between Zan Tabak and Nikoloz 'Skita' Tskitishvili, but I have to go with Skita. Skita is going to lead the Knicks to a title this season. He's been sucking the last few years just so that he could get a feel for the league. Now, he's going to use all of his criticisms and his pent up frustrations to dominate the league like it has never been dominated before. By the end of November, all of you will be saying "Zan Tabak who?"

Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Wilt Chamberlain
Bill Russell
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Oscar Robertson

Take your pick from these six. My opinion: Larry Bird

Anyone who says Michael Jordan, doesn't know what they're talking about.

No one ever gives him any credit and they only see him for his mistakes. Yes, I'm talking about Kobe Bryant. He can score basically from anywhere on the court and his defense is solid. He's a superstar, history in the making!
