La Crosse is about the prettiest city, with all you are asking about. In the spring they have a seasonal event on the Mississippi River to watch 100's of Bald eagles fish in the open waters. Just north of there is where Grumpy Old Men was portrayed in Wabasha, Mn(just across the river). This is Ocktober Fest in that college town(La Crosse). Lots of Festivities, food and BEER consumption take place. G. Heileman Brewery is there(Old Style Beer). The Mississippi River is like a freeway for the barges. The trees are in FULL color now and with the hills and water way with rock formation... Very scenic!
Wisconsin Dells is breath-takingly beautiful, but very touristy. Water Parks and Dells boat/Duck rides and other amusements for family pleasure. Pretty quiet in the winter, tho.
Up north, is where we have a log home. It's about 25 miles NE of Park Falls. Wi. on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Peaceful and scenic. A little bit of Heaven. Logging industry and paper mills are the big industry. Tourism(fishing, hunting and snowmobiling )is right up there in revenue, in the towns with amenities.
Hope that give you a little idea of what Wisconsin has to offer. I would check with a Wis.web site on an area you are most interested in.
