Slash fiction is stories or novels: romantic or sexual in nature, depicting gay or bisexual characters. It's usually in the realms of the 'fan fiction' where the predominantly straight female authors take already existing charcters and write 'gay' stories about them.
Harry Potter/ Lord of the Rings/Star Trek are all reported to have large slash followings.

I think it's kind of funny, but it's not something I read a lot. Much of it is about TV shows, and I don't watch a lot of TV, so I wouldn't get it. In some shows, I have seen attractions between actors or characters that won't get discussed, especially same-sex attractions, and it's interesting to subvert heterosexism and tell the stories that need telling.
I understand the desire to "remix" stories. I have long wanted to work on a sequel to the Handmaid's Tale (which I have yet to get permission for), and I won a lesbian/bi writing contest with a story about the events in the Well of Loneliness, as explained by the main character's ex-lover in a letter to her bisexual granddaughter. Sometimes you just want to know what happens to a character next, you know?

Slash fiction and movies is an old fashioned term, used for murder stories, especially gory ones,ie:- Nightmare on Elm Street.
If thats the usage now, its misleading as to its original meaning

I like some of it, but a lot of it is written by randy teenage girls with little understanding of sex or relationships, and it shows. There is nothing more frightening than a rabid Yaoi fangirl.
