Receiving an A or a B in chemistry is good, but some parents want to see you do better than that. To convince your father that you are putting great effort, bring home grades that show him that you are trying. If not, you can always ask your teacher to call you father and tell him that you are working really hard, since your father doesn't believe you.

Indicate that chemistry is a difficult subject and C is an average grade. If C is average, you are performing above average. While it may not be the best grade, you have the rest of the quarter to continue to improve upon it. It may also help if a B is an improvement from where you started in the class - that you could show him the progress you've made.
And while I think a B is perfectly acceptable - you could also indicate to him that different people have different strengths and weaknesses. While he may have excelled in chemistry, perhaps you excel in mathematics or english. People with strengths in a variety of areas are what make the world go 'round.

A grade of B is really a good grade, but I think your father knows your potential to get an A. Always strive for the best. Don't allow yourself to accept anything lower, because if you do, then it becomes a habit. I don't know your father , but I have 3 kids, they are all different. My 10 year old is really smart but for some reason his grades have always been B's and C's. I have accepted that even though I have not told him, in his mind I expect higher grades. Now, my 13 year old is a very hard worker and she strives for the highest grade she possibly can. She is an A-B honor student, any C's and she knows it is not acceptable because I know her potential. I love them the same but I know they are different people. It might sound bad to other parents, but , hey !! it works for us.
Peace.

tell him how easy it is to be failing halfway through the quarter. The teacher is new to you. So you had to get used to her teaching styles, and her test styles, which take time, and often results in a bad grade or two. Also, remind him one bad homework grade can affect the grade as a whole drastically durung the first few weeks of school

As a parent, I want my kids to do the very best they can. (aka: live up to their potential in each class) Do you get progress reports that show the grades of each assignment and test? If you can, show your dad these and go over them with him. If your work is always completely done and on time, and you are studying that shows effort. A great deal can change over the course of a semester.
Good luck!

A "B" is a fine grade... let him see you studying so that he can see how hard you are working.
