The State Dept. confirmed that Rice did receive a CIA briefing about terror threats two months before the Sept. 11 attacks,

Bob Woodward in his new book describes the White House meeting as an emergency wake up call that Rice simply brushed off.

Yet, CIA Director Tenet and the county'ss top counterterror officer state that the session stood out in their minds as the "starkest warning they had ever given the White House" on an al-Qaida threat.

Rice was national security adviser at the time and her support for an preemptive attack on Iraq through spreading lies about their being a nuclear threat to the American public got her promoted to the top diplomatic job last year.

Although, both the State Department and the National Security Council indicated on Sunday that such a meeting had taken place, Rice continued to lie about it on Monday night saying that she would have remembered the sort of forceful warning the book claims.

Can any leader ever believe anything she says?

Materials from this meeting were made available to the independent Sept. 11 Commission, and Tenet was asked about the session when interviewed by the commission, though the meeting was not made a part of the commission report.

It was also referred to the report by the commission's predecessor, a joint congressional panel that investigated the 9/11 attacks.

That report stated that "senior U.S. government officials were advised by the intelligence community on June 28 and July 10, 2001, that emanate attacks were expected, among other things, to 'have dramatic consequences on governments or cause major casualties' and that 'attack preparations have been made. Attack will occur with little or no warning

The present administration has ignited a conflict that cannot be solved within a few years. This conflict is in line with their political view on a more military stand by our government. Terrorism of the type we are experiencing has been a problem for the world since the Munich Olympics...it's something that will continue to be an issue (because of globalization of communities) for posssibly generations, maybe forever. But the problem as I see it is that the presenty military response cannot be completed during Bush's Administration, he will leave it for others to solve (and has said as much). This is all fine and dandy, it's the priviledge of the elected official to embark on his vision of America and to protect it as he sees fit. The problem is that his vision will be ended the first day an opposition party is elected...making his ego bigger than reality. Because this vision cannot be finalized, it makes his decision to take us into a precarious world position ill advised. It certainly would have been a mistake to do nothing, but history is full of leaders and generals going too far and risking too much.

They and their supporters are trying (and succeeding somewhat) to rewrite history...but only to their supporters and party, the rest of us are building another less supportive view. I don't expect them to go away, but they are confounding the direction of this country by not seeking consensus with the opposition.

People supportive of Bush and his Admin. will continue to do so no matter what is proved...when confronted by one of their own lies, they will simply try to change the question and conservative media will spin it to show how rotten the people are for not supporting her. America is in the middle of a culture war. It seems to me that the people who didn't support a black man going to "their" school in the 50's are still working on an agenda of "us or them". There is a culture war going on in America...those on the right, in their present cloud of power, cannot see the middle ground. If they lie, there's nothing we can do about it as long as people believe the spin. Whatever happened to the good old days when people didn't trust politicians.

Woodward sold his integrity when he accepted the advance for this book. Instead of the Bob Woodward everyone remembers uncovering Watergate, this will prove to be his swan song and his legacy will be like Dan Rather, remembered for playing politics instead of being a journalist.

Several of the people being quoted in the book are saying that they don't remember the activity. If Woodward isn't making it up, perhaps George Tenet is trying to save his own credibility by saying the warning was worded more strongly than it was.

And like Rice says, there were plenty of warnings, but none gave specific targets. And George Tenet never gave a threat warning of an attack on US soil.

Its politics and Woodward is sealing his legacy by playing it.

She can last as long as the American people continue to turn the other cheek.

Given the current administration and America's apathy, she'll be there until 2008 or even longer.

However, the 9/11 Commission seems pretty ticked off that Condi basically perjured herself on the stand... it sounds like there might just be legs to this issue...

I agree with you, Condi is not very truthful sometimes.

But she has far more job security than that creep, Donald Rumsfeld or any of the other Bush goons.

She has a great personality, she's very articulate, elegant, graceful and she's easy on the eyes as old timers say! Trust me, despite her shilling for George W, her career will only go up.

I like her hair and think she is very stylish. These traits alone count worlds more in mine and other "right-thinking" republicans' books than the tripish ideals and standards you appear to want to hold our Condi to.

And George is absolved of any and all transgressions whenever that lovely wife of his gives her vixen smiles. Honestly, these are the things that matter. You are quite silly to be concerned about innocent deaths and unjustifiable wars and "lies" and such. Condi's "babe" status will keep her in good stead.

Yes very much the same as Iran Contra, I remember Ron Reagan as great as he may have been using that "I just cant recall" lie in front of congress. Only now we feel sorry for poor old Ron and his lie he truly may have not recalled. But condi, wow, dint lie so quickly you aren't old enough to have Alzheimer's.

They knew some thing was coming. That was it. Bush and Rice are good but they are not Gods and can not see that far ahead.

By that way Tenet was the head of the CIA they droped the ball. So he wants to cover his ***.

Rice hasn't told a lie yet.
Woodward is a shyster democrat and a liar.
The Clintons proved that it's okay to lie. In fact, it's good to lie.
Truth is lies.
Lies are truth.
The Clintons ARE lies.
They lie and the Democrats swear to it.
