...Specifically before a music/engineering course?

The answer would depend, in large part, on what you plan to do during your gap year.

If you plan to travel internationally you might be able to broaden your exposure to and appreciation of, different types of musical and engineering styles, as well as broadening your life experience and exposure to other peoples and their cultures. If you plan to work you should do so in a music or engineering related field that could further your career. Any or all of these experiences would make you a more attractive student to any university offering the course you want to follow. If, on the other hand, you're planning on hanging out with your mates, dating your high school sweetheart, and working in some job that has nothing to do with what you want to study, then DON'T take the year off. Many studies have shown that a large percentage of students who take a gap year actually don't ever go to university.

Best of luck

I honestly have many pals that took a 12 months off till now attending college and college. some are going back this 12 months and a few easily have been given to used to unlikely to college and doing the artwork so are insisting on waiting yet another 12 months. and a few made funds to help pay for the classes and a few easily stated they have been going to artwork and goofed off. basically relies upon on the guy and destiny plans. this is the two a sturdy or a foul determination, observing the way you're taking advantage of a 12 months off from college.

You can travel the world and pick up the different culture of music and how other countries do things before deciding that you need to do a complete different course.

Plus you can visit science and technology museums abroad and here, also natural wonders and then try 2 work out how it was done, before the true mechanical workings are explained.

It will give you more time to discover what you'd like to do in life and make a better choice of which course to take, when the time comes. It might be better to take a year's break than spend a lot of money on the "wrong" courses.

Well, not only would you have time to save for the money college costs (or at least for some of the extras of college), but it would give you a chance to see why you WANT to be in college. ;-) It's easier than the 'real world' even if you do actually study and get good grades.

maybe you could say you not sure of what you want to do yet so you ned a gap year to make up your mind, there's no point doing something and then half way through the course deciding it's not what you want to do
