Right after 9/11, the world showered us with support and praise. Now, from all reports, the rest of the world (excepting Israel and a handful of European nations) looks at America in disgust. How did this all happen in a few short years???

People are right that there has always been anti-Americanism abroad, even among allies, but America's stock has never been lower than it is now. And there was a huge amount of sympathy after 9-11 - remember even places like Libya condemned the attack. In five years we've gone from Le Monde's 'We Are All Americans Now' headline to 'We are all Hezbollah Now' signs in London protest marches.

The short answer, quite simply, is the bone-headed invasion of Iraq, which by the account of the US intelligence community has made one of the world's most serious problems worse for everybody.

As an ex-pat, living abroad (I know that's redundant) I think it's a combination of factors and that individuals Americans are still respected when they deserve it. Your government represents you as a whole and much of the world did not agree with the Iraq invasion, the arrogant attitude of your leaders, nor their perceived bullying. Apart from that, Europe felt deeply for the victims of Katrina but were disheartened and later indignant over the pride that led to ingratitude over the aide that was given. This is all documented. Unfortunately, your leaders, not the people, represent your global image.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the world has never really liked us. Your just looking at pre 9-11 with rose colored glasses. Those attacks didn't happen because we were loved through out the world. In fact if it weren't for WWII Europe probably wouldn't have too much to do with us.

We thought we could stop terrorism by bombing them. We are learning the opposite is true. More people are supporting Hezbollah, the Taliban and the insurgency in Iraq.
I'm a Muslim in America and even I am feeling sympathy for some of them.

War is never the answer, we must find a different way!

I can't say for sure being that I am an American and a christian, but my guess is that they despise us because of the power of influence we have, and with that power we are more of an impatient and headstrong leader than one that rallies others to our cause through inspiration. If only we could master being a country of General Moores- We Were Soldiers.

What are you, 13? On what do you base your naive view of international relations?

"Love," "hate," and "respect," are great emotional values, but believe it or not, America is NOT the center of the universe, and the rest of the nations do not sit around and FEEL things for us...

They are doing whatever they're doing, and only feel for us when we:
1. have something they want; and/or,
2. get in the way of something they have or they want...

Penis envy? Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, John Kerry, Al Gore, John Murtha, Nancy Pelosy, & Harry Reid has made this country a laughing stock by spewing purely political nonsense & it's being used against us by our enimy.

Simple, why did we go into Iraq? We now have no real reason excepting the "spreading" of democracy (and all the other countries see through that bs). We are viewed as stupid and dangerous because of our current president and now the world hates us.

I still love and admire the US and support her (and every other country) in her war on Islamic terrorism.
