No, you are not screwed. I too live in Michigan and yes I do know the pickings are slim. First off you have to figure out what it is you like to do. Go to you local papers website they usually post help wanted ads there. Like for me it was the Traverse City Record-Eagle. You can also post a resume online in several different job searches. Go to the MichiganWorks website and you can post a resume and look for a job there. Start going to different businesses and start filling out applications. Don't take no for an answer. Keep pestering them. Fill out job applications at places your friends recommend. Think of the possibility of relocating if you find a job you like but it is far away. Check with the hospitals for housekeeping they make pretty good money. Go to Kelly Services or Manpower see if they can place you with an employer. Make sure on the application or even a cover letter for a resume that you specify what shift you want to work. Be open to a part-time or temporary job because those can lead to full-time. Be open to working a couple of jobs. Ask for an interview and when you are filing a resume be sure to point out your strong aspects use proper english and be assertive. You have to go get the job the job is not going to come to you. Good Luck. I have just gotten a job with Primerica that is something you may want to look into because you can work at home or in the office and it seems to be pretty good so far. I also have an interview with 2 other companies tomorrow. Be flexible, dependable, willing to learn what it is you do not know, and make sure you dress for success.

First, you need to make finding a job your job until you find one. get up every morning, get the paper or go on line and look at the Help wanted ads then go to the employement office and register. then when you see now hiring signs get in there and fill out the applications. If you make it a job and spend the same hours on it as you would be doing on a job you will find one. Laying in bed til 11:00 and staying up all night and complaining won't get it done. Also, call friends and people you used to work for or with and see if they know anything. You have to get out there. good luck

Check the net, newspapers, shops or go back to school, and get a degree. You are not screwed unless you cant pay for your college or university expenses. The government should pay it for you and than you have to be able to pay back in form of loans. Instead of working at Burger King just get a degree in something and you can get a better job and get better paid.

Try West Michigan (Grand Rapids/Holland/Muskegon area). West Michigan is totally different than the rest of Michigan. Plus, West Michigan has beautiful Lake Michigan beaches, lots of lakes, forests, etc.

West Michigan job market expected to grow

"This region has the healthiest economy in the state, and the outlook appears relatively rosy for future hires. That's the consensus of Manpower Inc. and its analyst, Joe Ross.

"Michigan's got two economies right now," Ross said. "One is West Michigan, and the rest of the state."

Ross sees it this way: "If it were a summer movie, we would call it 'Revenge of the West Side,' " Ross said. "West Michigan still is the bright spot in the entire state.""

"Donald Shoemaker, principal for Franklin Partners, said he bought the Siemens Dematic facilities, 4147 and 4247 Eastern Ave. SE, because the regional market has been strong.

"We're asked all the time, 'Why would you go to the worst economy in the nation to do business?' But that's with the east half of Michigan added in," he said.

In West Michigan, the outlook and demand are considerably different than the Detroit area, he said."

Find a temp service that can help. Also check on line and the newspapers. (you probably hear that all the time). and if that all fails crack open the phone book and start calling places you would like to work at and see if they are hiring.

No not at all! There are always a position that will open that will meet most of your criteria. But it is always good to have a job while looking for one better. Believe it or not employers do look at whether you are employed or not. Sounds backwards, but it shows you are willing to work and are trying to better yourself

Since you don't have a degree, you HAVE to work at nights or go get a degree. Ask your parents if they are willing to support you in your school decision. If not then you have NO choice.

Get off the computer and go look for a job.

Why can't you work nights?

In order to feed and tend to my family I have worked more then 25 years on night shifts. Just because that was all that was available.

well... search the classifieds... OR even get a job at a local store. You'd be surprised how much $$ you can make at some of the grocery stores .... especially if they're unionized.
