First the eagles weren't talking to any one at that point. Second the eagle king would have killed them and taken the ring for himself.

Peter Jackson wouldn't dream of messing up J.R.R. Tolkien's books original story line. He was trying to create movies that would be true to the books & keep Millions of fans since 1937 when the Hobbit was published to The Lord of the Rings in 1954-55 happy. Too many fans would have been upset. They are a cult-like tale that will last forever.
However... we are talking about the movies & some of the details in the books must be deleted or time lines shortened to keep movie goers who've never heard of the books in the theatres. I mean... he did make 3 very long movies & still missed stuff that was in the books, but such is the life of movie making.
PS - he was on line to websites prior/during/after the making of the movies, so he could get fan feedback & try to please everyone, though we all know that's impossible! But he did manage to get several Oscars & critical acclaim for what he did create. I say "well done Peter! "Well done!"

well thats a strange question. A: The quest was supposed to be secret. A servant could have easily noticed an eagle flying an would have sent a fellbeast. B: Whats the point of the story?! Why bother making a movie about frodo and his "grand" adventure on the back of an eagle? C: The eagles weren't allies to everyone. they only helped when there is no other way to solve the problem. Since the Fellowship could have walked there, why bother?

Come on - this is a novel - and the films deviate big time from what the real fans would wish to have seen - for example - what happened to Tom Bombardil? None of the fans would be really happy regardless of what production had been made because we all have the book in our own private minds

Read the book. It explains it in there.

To summarize, though, Gandalf asked the Eagles for a favor. Usually, they do not meddle in the affairs of humans/elves/drawves, but since the End of the World was saved, they obliged.
