If I recall, the Israeli army didn't stop their incursion into Lebanon because of the Sabbath.
I suppose that it is a personal thing between yourself and your God.
Obviously you would not declare "religious freedom" and lay down you weapon in the face of an immanent attack or during actual combat.

It depends. The U.S. military tries to make religious concessions to its members. However, it is very unlikely that you will have such flexibility in a war zone (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) At the end of the day, you are a soldier 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The U.S military isn't going to suppress your "freedom of religion". You might have to adapt your practices to fit around your job in the military. Especially if it is part of one of the "principle" religions (Christianity, Jewish, Muslim, etc.), you will have other service men/women who will celebrate the occasion.
