Martin Gilbert for 2nd WW Jewish history

Stenton for Anglo Saxon History

but the gist is that History is a living entity with a lot of complex inter-playing aspects that no one person could be the final arbiter of History.

I'm not sure about ALL time but,Dr David Starkey has carved a niche for himself as the doyen of TV history.He's respected and well liked. His enthusiastic interpretations of history bring the realm of the academic to life, and his programmes have proved accessible and popular. His passion for History shines through!! I for one absolutely love his programmes.

Not really, in fact real historians don't think very much of him at all. He is a showman who just happened to be in the right place at the right time and has managed to carve out a niche for himself on Television..

May'be but what of ancient Historians ie Herodotus 'the father of history' and many others without their accounts we would know so much less about the world of the past and doesn't he really interpret and analyse history rather than record it.

He is pretty good though I think Simon Shama is probably one of the better historians at the moment

No! He's pretty good but Mark Steele is the greatest of all time! His approach to telling history is refreshing.

I wouldn't think so. He is good but there are a number of very good historians around
