I have already had my dosage of medication increased 3 times and just found out today I need to get increased again. Is it normal for it to take so long to find the right dose? I have gained so much weight and just want to drop some weight but it is very difficult.

I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis - hypoactive thyroid - but thankfully my meds have only had to be increased twice in 2 years. What are you on? I really like Synthroid and it seems to be working well. As far as weight gain, my physician told me that the meds you take for your thyroid can be just as responsible for weight gain as your underactive thyroid! I walk a mile a day and try to watch what I eat, so I'm pretty much at a plateau in my weight. WebMD has some really good suggestions for weight management - try it! God bless!

In the beginning, it took a full year for me to get my thyroid medication right. It stayed right for 20 years, then my doctor retired. My new doctor has tinkered with it a little over the last 5 years, but not much.

Getting it right is a process...blood test after blood test can be required. However, I'm so grateful that this is something that doctors can FIX, I don't complain.

Yes it can take time if your tsh levels are low. They have to raise the dosage gradually, so as not to give you too much.
