I have to write a speech for my college speech class. I came up with three topics they are:
1. helping the homeless
2. lifting the bann on cell phones in NY public high schools
3. giving back to your community once you become wealthy or famous.

Who could argue with #1??

For #2 you could find examples where this has already happened. Many schools that used to disallow it (i.e. Catholic schools in Phila., PA) now allow them in school because of what happened at Columbine.

I don't think #3 is very interesting.

It all depends on which you feel more strongly about. I always find it easier to write a persuasive topic when I actually care about the topic a lot.

Helping the homeless is a good cause and all, but it is also a bit played out and you'd just be repeating a lot of stuff that people already say. Cell phones topic could provide for some good arguements. Giving back to the community is a creative topic but may be difficult to come up with a good persuasive arguement for it.

All three have their strengths and weaknesses, so it's up to the writer which one do you feel most strongly for?

for a persuasive speech why don't you convince people not to eat meat? or recycle? the cattle industry ruins the environment, wastes water and many other problems. if you live in an area where people aren't big on recycling, help them get with the program. how many people are really going to be so wealthy or famous they could give to the whole community?

I would go against 1 since the body of knowledge against it is very big.

number 2 will be harder to research, and number 3 is too subjective to be treated objectively.

How about choice #4? Giving back to your community as soon as you are able to contribute, regardless of wealth or fame. "Little Heroes" are big achievers in making a better World to live on.

Or...you could try, "Why stoning the 'problem' children at school will help educate America." The research they have done on the topic is compelling and incredible...
