A DVD burner only costs a couple of £'s or $'s more and you never know if you'll find it useful. Obviously with a DVD burner you'd be able to burn DVDs and CDs.

DVD burners are more affordable now so the DVD burner would be a better choice. You can burn CDs on it and if you are backing up a hard disk you will need a lot fewer disks using DVDs. You can also create backups for your DVD library and the copies will be much higher quality than you could get on VCD.

A DVD burner is like having 2 in 1 in other words you can burn Cd's, y DVD,s.
In order to have a DVD you need a processor of 800 MHz Pentium 3 other wise it wont work.
PS or a 1.3 Pentium 4

DVD burners are the way to go for three reasons:
1).most new things will be DVD or better.
2).all burners are backwards compatible, that is it will play/burn anything(Cd's included) made prior to that model.
3). as cheap as the DVD burners are there is no reason to be left out of current technology.IE:lite-on combos and etc.

dvds hold a lot more than cds...and a dvd burner is generally also a cd burner so it's like you're getting 2 burners in one

DVDs can hold a lot more info than CDs so if you plan on storing a ton of photos or videos, you might want a DVD instead. Look for a double layer burning DVD drive for even more storage capability on each disc.

No advantage whatsoever.
There are some disadvantages though, but that is a different question.
