I was at the Sahara a year ago, and the best that I can say about their buffet is that it's cheap. The room was decent and clean; I had no complaints. The monorail station there was very convenient.
Best tips: 1. You will be close to a discount ticket outlet, and they are the best way to get good prices for shows of all types. See the links below for their locations (you can't order online). When you get there (they open about 11am - get there early!), check their listings and prices, which will be scrolling on an electronic board, and choose a show. 2. My favorite cheap and GREAT buffet is downtown at the Main Street Station. They have an excellent spread in a stylish setting, all for low prices. 3. Prices at restaurants are mostly high, but you can save a lot by heading to the 24 hr cafe that every casino has. They are a much better value. Also, there are always burger/sandwich/pizza places in a food court section of every hotel/casino. 4. Pick up the free magazines you find in the room, at the front desk check-in, or on stands anywhere in any shop. They have dollars-off coupons for attractions, restaurants, and shows. There are maybe half a dozen of these magazines; check 2 or 3.

Ive stayed a the Sahara on numerous occasions. Love it there. Not as crowded as it is down the strip. The monorail is right there, and their buffet is very good and one of the cheaper ones on the strip. It has the Nascar theme, so, there is anything there that the nascar lover could want.Ask for a room on the upper level with a balcony overlooking the strip. Its well worth it.Beautiful sight at night. There is no extra charge for requesting a room, but, they will expect a small tip.

I booked a room at the Sahara for my husband in Feb. 2006 for a business trip and he said it was awful. I had read they had remodeled the rooms but he said he must have been put in the old section. He said Motel 6 would have been better. Rust in the bathtub and sink, dirty carpet, moldy smelling room - said it looked like a motel out of the 50's. He complained but they said nothing they could do. I'm not sure if there is an old section and new section, but I would certainly request to see the room first. My husband is far from picky - but said he would not stay there again.

I've stayed there but it was ages ago, like 1987. I remember it being nice and clean, very basic and the buffet was really good.
