I am 13wks and nearing my 2nd trimester, My hair is an absolute mess b/c I couldn't get a relaxer. Has anyone out there relaxed their hair in the 2nd trimester or gotten any word that its ok at that point? I've heard stories that some women did them through their entire preg with no ill results on the baby. I was gonna use a mild or kiddie relaxer like pcj pretty and silky. please help! Serious answers ONLY!!!

I did perm my hair, I've done it maybe 3 times since I have been pregnant, the very first weekend I found out I went and got my perm and hair done and all that, the next time I waited until 2nd trimester got it done again and then I got it permed about 23 weeks ago, my last one until my son is born this month. Now here is the thing, chemicals are always better to stay away from 1st trimester BUT my doctor told me unless I AM the beautician and in constant interation with perms/chemicals all day, there is no harm to your baby. A perm here and there causes no danger, not sure about dying your hair though. Also fair warning-- they dont work well when you are pregnant and a kiddle perm is really going to piss you off! I did African Pride and it is straight but no where near what I am used to it doing and there is nothing we can do about it, our hair changes in pregnancy and does not react the same. Now if you are still scared of perming you hair since you have waited this long, maybe try to get your hair pressed and placed in a style that is managable for the next month or two and keep getting it pressed.

I got a relaxer in my 2 trimester and now I'm 32 weeks pregnant and as I know of there is nothing wrong with my baby, but the only reason I got a relaxer was because I'm station in Japan and could not find a hair dresser that does weaves.

I got a perm when I needed one. My beautican said that it was ok to perm, but she was a little iffy on the coloring. I just got my hair braided on sat. I am 35 weeks and plan to keep this braids in for a while. Talk to your beautican and see what she says. Some will do it and some won't. What i suggest if u haven't thought about it is get your hair braided when u get in the third trimester. The reason that i say this is because u are not going to want to be bothered. I plan on taking out the front in dec or jan and getting it touched up. Then in like march or april taking them out and getting a perm.

Get some braids and call it a day. Then once you have the baby and you take the braids out, find a hair stylist that knows how to do aa hair without relaxing it. That's old school, I didn't know ppl still used those.

Well i can't see the harm in putting a relaxer in your hair...My mom use perms in her hair while pregnant ans she was hesitant and first as well, she spoke with the doctor and he said it was fine....lots or people do it however, as chemicals change throw out the years, i would suggest you speak to your doctor....

I am not a hair care professional, but two of my sis in laws are and they both say absolutely no hair straightners, chemical or dies. It has not yet been able to prove if it is harmful or not.
