35 pounds know more and absolutely no less. My doctor which I must say was a very good one says gaining anymore than that and you will have a hard time loosing the lump in your belly and any less then that can be harmful for your baby. Trust me the morning after i had my son it was like i never had one at all i had my tummy back and absolutely no stretch marks. Use lots of cocoa butter also to keep them from popping up on you.

I gained 39 lbs and had a 8lbs 11.2 oz baby. They say that if you are underweight to begin with, they expect you to gain more weight and if you are overweight, then they expect you to gain less than the average. What is normal for you will depend on your height and weight before you got pregnant. Don't worry about your weight gain unless your doctor tells you to. I heard that in the first trimester you should gain between 3 to 5 lbs on average and about a pound a week on average after that, but some weeks you'll gain more than that and some weeks you won't gain anything at all. It's more important that you don't lose weight while you're pregnant than exactly how much you gain when. Eat healthy, get some light, low impact excersize three to five days a week and you'll be fine. Let your body and your doctor worry about the rest.

I only gained 6 lbs and had a healthy 8lb 14 oz daughter. I was over weight when I started, so I was very careful on calories and making sure every calorie counted toward a daily requirement (aka the pregnancy daily dozen). Also stayed active throughout. f you are average weight though, you would need to gain more. Good Luck!
