i'm quite sure it was warcraft, except i don't remember orks OR elves. i remember humans versus goblins. but then again, i only played the first game.
you would probably also like age of empires II
you start with villagers, and to get a knight, you need to build a barracks, and upgrade the building a bit. to get an archer, you create an archery range, etc...

First of all, its O - R - C - S, dont call them orks, just sounds tarded =/ And its not WC1 or WC2, because you play as humans versus orcs, if that is what you mean. Warcraft did not have elves until WC 3, in which they had two new races, NIGHT elves, and undead. You can still find WC in walmart and other major stores...
