I have a wireless Systemax laptop and a Linksys G wireless router. My laptop recently is only able to get a low signal if that. I did some troubleshooting on my laptop and found the following:

MiniPCI Wireless Network Adapter (Failed)
DefaultIPGateway (Failed)
DHCPServer (Failed)
DNSServerSearchOrder (Failed)

Please help and advised if I should send the laptop to repaired under warranty or if this can be easily fixed. (all other computers in the can connect to the network).

More often than not a low signal is not an issue with the laptop, but the router. If your linksys is setup using the default settings without any changes you may be connecting to your neighbors wireless accidentally.

There are many other things that may cause problems such as cordless phones, microwaves & filing cabinets.

Wireless Routers frequently have issues that firmware updates fix. I would definitely give linksys a call and see if they can help you troubleshoot a bit more.

A local professional should be able to figure out more about your problem in less than an hour onsite.

The drivers fail more often than the hardware. Download the latest drivers for your NIC card from the internet, or have your CD available. Then, using device manager, uninstall, then reinstall the NIC. Update the drivers with the ones you got from the internet, or at least make sure you got the right ones from the CD. Then run your tests again. This should fix your problem. If not, you've got a hardware failure and the NIC needs to be replaced (they have a pretty high failure rate). The default gateway, DHCP and DNS failures are all related to the NIC failure.

Yep...two possibilities:

The adapter has failed or
The proper driver is not installed.

Right mouse click on My Computer (on the desktop)
Click on "Hardware"
Click on "Device Manager"
Look for your adapter driver and right mouse click to "Properties"
Ensure that you read "This device is working properly." If not, then it's a driver problem and you can download & install a new driver for laptop manufacturer or adapter manufacturer.

Otherwise, the adapter has a hardware problem and needs to be replaced.

Best wishes.
