I think it has been made so financially unattainable to most, it's a travesty. The people who cannot obtain adequate insurance seem to have the most chronic medical problems, perhaps because they cannot afford to see their MD and find a resolution to their illness. Even those who are able to afford coverage are usually not covered sufficiently because of co-pays, cost shares etc. The 'gold standard' of health insurance seems to be TRICARE, which is only available to those associated with the military. The financial burden many times leads to more stress thereby exacerbating the medical condition.

healthcare is all about the bottom line now, the almighty dollar.
Insurance is ridiculously expensive and doesn't cover costs fully.
Increasing numbers of employed American citizens have to give up their insurance or give up eating!!! Many have to go without vital medications because pharmeceutical companies demand ridiculous profits along with the insurance companies demands for equally ridiculous profits. Soon, only the very rich and the totally indigent will get good health care.

Health care costs are not too expensive. When you are sick, you don't think about the cost. You want to get well. If a doctor saves your life, how much are you willing to pay?
There is competition in the health insurance industry. Competition keeps prices down. Just ask any auto manufacturer.
Health insurance premiums are not too high. Premiums are risk-related. Make claims and the cost of insurance goes up.

I have good healthcare, but I pay out the wazoo for it. I have a certain amount of medcation that I must take to stay healthy. Between that and regular doctor visits and bloodwork I pay almost as much as a house note each month.

The job I have allows me to pay, but most of the people I grew up with and even went to college with couldn't survive in my situation. The fact that people have to choose between lights and health is absurd.
