personally, i dont do trends because i like to wear my clothes for seasons and for years if they last. so i stick to the basics and go for the accessories and shoes to bring my outfit to life...oh and i love colors. i think instead of trendy, im more stylish

What is a trend? A trend is an exogenic response, a response to something that someone else considers to be innovative - new, original etc. Unfortunately, trends tend to be based around something that can be marketed for a profit, hence the many different genres of 'pop' music that succeed each other regularly and generate multiquids from consumers anxious to conform with the adjective 'trendy'. In short, most trends are a rip-off.
If I walked down the local High Street naked, would that start a trend? Highly unlikely, as nobody can sell anything to a naked trend, except sun-block. (Sun block makers - please note. A bit of freedom to be nude would be a very good thing!)
Some trends do become established, however. A good case in point in the UK are Goths. Goths tend to dress in black, and the females use heavy make-up, and Goths have a non-extreme, non-commercial musical genre. Goths are also very conscious of freedoms, not only in themselves - the Goth as Goth, but of freedom in general. Recently, an East Anglian Goth gathering, that meets in the function room of a pub, advertised their gatherings as being "clothing optional". They made the mistake of using the term "clothing optional" as meaning that you did not have to attend the session in Goth gear, but they actually found that they had attracted a large number of people who proceeded to remove all their clothes and floated around the function room naked. "Clothing Optional" is a term employed by Naturists (people who like to be nude - often mistakenly called 'nudists'). In other words, the Goths had used a phrase that has a double meaning.
To the credit of both the Goths and the Naturists, the clothed and the unclothed stayed in harmony, and the mixing of Goths, wannabe Goths in ordinary dress, and naked people continues to this day.
Not a bad trend, at all.

I don't really look at what other people are wearing, as I have better things to do with my time. Does it really matter how others dress? If thats what they want to wear than so be it.

As long as what they're wearing isn't offensive I say each to their own.
