it's usually a timer that is reset when the oil is changed. Has the oil been changed recently? Do a search on the net to find out how to reset that thing.

I found it:

I found it on an other forum and it works.

1. turn ignition to ON position.

2. toggle the trip/odometer display to display Odometer.

3. turn ignition to OFF position.

4. WHILE holding the ODOMETER button down, TURN the ignition to the ON position. Keep holding the ODOMETER button down until you see the light stay on in 2 seconds and then flash and then OFF.

turn ignition off and then back on to confirm that it's off.

The maintenance required light is a timed light. Meaning, (due to mileage or engine hours) a required maintenance interval has come. You must go to the dealer to find out which one.

If it is the timing belt... get it changed before it leaves you stranded. The timing belt connects the crankshaft to the camshaft. This is a critical component that makes sure your engine valves open and close on the right cylinder at the right time. Depending on your engine design... One of two things will happen if it breaks.
1st, (free wheel design) You will immediately notice a lack of power and your engine will quickly stall. At this point you got lucky and no other damage occurred. Get towed... then pay for repair.
2nd, (non-free wheel design) You will hear a banging sound, your engine will stall. At this point, multiple valves have been hit by the piston which was moving up and down. Get towed... then pay for a complete new engine... or scrap the car (depending on value).

Basically... get it looked at sooner then later.

Look in your owners manual.
I have a benz, but once I left my gas cap unscrewed, and the same notice popped up.
It took a day to go away once I fixed the problem.
It could be that, it could be a bad fuse and the light is just stuck on.
Hopefully it's nothing big
good luck

Read you owner manual. It's an automatic thing that comes on every 3500 miles or so. I've got an 2004 and it scared me the first time that light came on. It's really simple to reset.

it is usally caused by the oxygen sensor located in the exhaust it will get carbon built up on it and cause the light to come on it is easy to fix and is cheap

it could be one of many sensors on this vehicle that will make it flash.
