everyone is eligable for student loans. And the amount your parents make may hinder you from getting certain types of financial aid...however...check with your financial aid representative....there is tons of scholarships and grants out there for people of most any income bracket.

I used to work for the financial aid office at a community college. There were some students that because of their age ( I think it was til age 24) had to include their parents income when they file the initial application, however once the papers were processed and sent back to the student the student could take them to a financial aid counselor who would evaluate their situation and determine if the student was in fact independent, I think the students would have to prove they lived on there own and had to show proof of having filed income taxes claiming themselves for the past 3 years. Once the counselor determined they were independent their status was changed and financial aid application would be resubmitted with only the students financial information. I also know that some loans are based on necessity too, mostly to ensure that the student is not borrowing too much money and some loans still require you parents information.

In the forms somewhere there should be an option for you to say you support yourself and live alone. If you filled them in correctly then you shouldn't of even had to say how much your parents earn. You can also get non income assessed loans which are basically the very basic loan amount and you don't have to say how much your parents earn.

You need to be independent for 24 consecutive months before you are considered truly independent.

They closed that loophole in the late 90's dear.

Times are a changing.
