What could make the taillights and interior lights go out in a 1997 Mazda 626?

you could have blown a fuse, or have a short ,,, if there not working at all i would test the fuse,, and look at the bulb,, if it's not that then it's an electrical problem in the wires

Your fuel filter is stopped up. Just change out your head gasket it should be alright.
