The "ease" with which someone learns a language depends a lot on the person's age and affinity for language, as well as the methods he/she uses to learn it, and the methods others use to teach it. I've been told by my friends who speak English as a second language that it was one of the more difficult languages for them to learn.

It takes about 2 years to learn/understand and be fluent in social settings. It takes about 7 years to learn/understand and be fluent in professional/academic settings. Of course, that is determinant upon how much exposure and practice is involved in the learning process. It is one of the hardest languages to learn because, for every rule, there is an exception to the rule.

I don't remember. I was a child at the time. I did learn to speak German however, and it was not terribly difficult as long as you can practice what you have learned.

I think so, if you have someone to practice it on/with. I've seen many learn it, in my lifetime.

Of course it is. Only if you practice everyday and study VERY VERY hard. You can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it and work hard.
Good Luck!
