I have an 85 turbo diesel mercedes and I notice that when I make long trips after about an hour a shaking noise starts under neath my car. The gages look normal and the noise is NOT screeching.

more than likely your universal joint is goin in your driveshaft-if its got a grease fitting grease it up-if your not sure what a driveshaft is its the metal tube that is in front of your rear end and the thing that has an( x )shape to it that connects your rear end to your driveshaft is your universal joint-theres also one in the front behind the transmission-check theses first-it sounds like they need at least greased or possibly replaced-hope this helps ya

It could be that your axle whether front or bad is about to go out. It could also be that your muffler is loose.
