crying.... I put a pacifier in her mouth and she calms down... what's causing her to cry? i know she's not hungry, she ate not long ago. and also, should I stop giving her a pacifier? somebody told me it was better to stop giving her a pacifier to make her go to sleep, but... what else can I do to sooth her? I know if I pick her up and hold her, it will actually awaken her further, and she needs her sleep to grow, so... what can I do? She's 5 months old.

My daughter dose the same thing(2 months old). I asked the Dr. about it and he said that she was just at a point of light sleep. It is part of the sleep pattern he said if she is OK and there is nothing wrong with her lever her alone and don't pick her up because you will only wake her up if you do. I don't know about the pasifier she won't take one .
I hope this helps.

Dreaming is possible. Also see if your baby is teething. My 5 month old already has one tooth. I had the hardest time trying to figure out why he was crying. Nose was also runny and drools all over the place. Would keep using pacifier if that keeps her from crying. Also I would purchase some oral gel for babys just to have around. or a frozen wash cloth works well also.
(It is better to have something and not need it vs needing something and not having it)

My baby does the same thing. She is 8 months now, she started two months ago. Sometimes saying something and rubbing her back will put her back to sleep. Throughout the night I hear her whining. I don't know the reason for this. But that is all I do is put the pacifier in her mouth. Hey it works. I was thinking maybe its some kind of security for her. Good luck!

Pacifiers are actually recommended for babies when they're falling asleep. Studies show that letting babies fall asleep with a pacifier helps to prevent SIDS.
To answer your question - give her the pacifier and she should go back to sleep. My daughter does this too - might be a dream or something.

My 2 month old does the same thing. I realize that the sucking soothes them. If she fidgets while she is crying in her sleep it may just be gas. Continue to give her the pacifier it that is what soothes her. She is still very young and you can wean her from it when she is closer to a year.

She was dreaming, and it is fine to give her the pacifier when sleeping it helps soothe her and calm her down. We took our daughter off the pacifier when she was two and had no problems with it gone and she was really I mean really attached to her binky.

Sounds like your lil' sweetie had a nightmare. I think babies dream of their mommies while they are sleeping. Maybe you could hold her while she is sleeping away. Whether she has her pacifier, well, babies have a need to suck or suckle. Yeah, it can be confusing when your not sure whether your baby needs comfort or if she's hungry or needs a diaper change. Hang in there!!!!

my daughter is the same and can wake up at least 5 times a night for her dummy. sometimes i think it can be wind that does this or a dream but in all honesty she is definetly wanting her dummy. my sister told me to try stop givin her the dummy but if it helps her sleep i just keep giving her it. My daughter is 9 month now and boy do i feel so tired with every night having a broken sleep but it wont be long before she can put dummy in herself. good luck

she'll be fine I have a 2month old preemie who does it all the time.I have a 13 month old that does it more than her. They both sleep with me and they take turns and sometimes im like what the hell. But in all honesy thier probably having bad dreams or just not sleeping well.Just rub her back.or get close to her face like nose to nose and allow her to smell you for a second that usually works with my 2 month old.sometimes thier missing your scent. As far as the pascifier dont take it if she likes it.Take it cold turkey when her teeth start coming in.U may hear crankiness for a couple of days it took my son 4 to be exact and he never thought about it again and im going to do the same thing with my 2month old.Teeth no pascifier.

maybe she's just dreaming. mine had pacifiers and they grew up just perfect. some babies are soothed by having their pacifiers. maybe she just wants you to pick her up. letting her cry for a short period will teach her to fall asleep and have good sleeping habits. maybe even play with her toys in the crib when she wakes up vs crying. :)))) have fun!
