Because Muslim countries produce most of it.
Yes, they hate us. Yes, hey would like to see us destroyed. Yet a great deal of the oil we buy from them is being used to hunt down and kill those who would kill us and change the politics of the region into something more agreeable to our way of life.

If Americans buy all their oil, and they are completely out of it, then their leverage on international affairs drops to about 0.
