The most important usage of chemistry is for maintaining life. It would be hard to maintain life without chemistry. Plastics is a strong second, though.

It is used to initiata semi-monchromatic beam of light which is focussed on to a special newl discovered Radio-Active metal encased in a chamber of powdered graphite and heavy water.

On exposure to air and irradiation, the metal bowl disintegrates and vapourises.

On collecting the vapour and heating it to plasma stage, the vapour starts to give of a strange glow.

Cult elders rub it on to themselves and initiate mass suicide.

Thats what it is used for.
