A windows machine is cheaper.
A windows machine is faster (compared to spending the same on a mac anyay)
You can get all the design software you need with adobe creative suite.

Im a designer, i had a mac for about a year - it was cool to fit in with the exclusive designer with a mac club for a while, but I went back to a windows machine because it is a lot faster.

Of course. There are tons of Windows-based programs for this. Apple has a major share in this market niche primarily because most graphic designers grew up on Apples and don't want to switch; not because Apple's the only choice, or even the best one.

You can get the Adobe Suite cs2. It has everything you need. You don't want to use Quarkexpress because it's going extinct. It's not even used in teaching design anymore. Adobe has Indesign which is much better, with more features. But it is expensive.

Yes, Quark Xpress is the industry standard for print. There are other cheaper applications though.

You can, but it will be done faster on a MAC. Get QuarkXPress, and the Adobe Suite (Illustrator, PhotoShop. Acrobat) and you'll be fine. It'll cost you, but you'll be fine.
