if i have the equation -x^2-12x-4

then when it is in completed sq format is it...

-(x+6)^2...
or
-(x-6)^2....

???

=-(x+6)^2+32

y= -(x+6)^2-32

-(x² + 12x + 4) = 0

-(x² + 12x) = 4

-(x² + 12x + 36) = 40

-(x + 6)² = 40

-(x + 6) = + sqrt(40) or - sqrt(40)

-x - 6 = + sqrt(40) or - sqrt(40)

x = 6 + 2sqrt(10) or 6 - 2sqrt(10)
