I have had chronic back pain for a couple years, most of the time every day of the month..and gets worse around that time of month. After having my yearly routine exam, my doctor mentioned I had fibroids. I didn't put two and two together until after my appointment, as he didn't mention fibroids could cause my back pain. Now after doing the research, I realize that could be why I have so much discomfort and after chiropractic, physical therapy, and after prescriptions for muscle spasms found little relief for my pain that comes and goes. Could my pain disappear for a month or two and then come back for another year while fibroids shrink and grow new ones?
I have other symptoms of fibroids, such as bad cramping, constipation, etc, but no extra bleeding. I will talk to my doctor about my options, but I'm just doing my research ahead of time; so I am well informed. In the articles I have read, back pain isn't usually the main symptom; so I am cautious to think that is the root of it

my back pain can be best described as:
a sharp sensation in the lower back that is worse after sitting for a period of time sometimes after 5 minutes. It also has a dull pain, and sometimes radiates down to the back of my thighs. Sometimes it feels like there is a catch or something out of place that causes additional pain. I have changed my seating position, and taken the muscle relaxers, and treat myself to extra breaks during to alleviate the pain with varying success depending on the day or who knows why?

Thanks for all the good responses, I am keeping them all in mind.

I just wanted to know how common this was or could be and if there is anything anyone found to help relieve the pain in the meantime before medical treatment as I know from the research that is not a medical emergency so I am not in panic mode, but I will visit the doctor soon.

Uterine Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that are in or around a woman's uterus. To determine the best solution to remove them, I would suggest that you get an ultrasound first to see the size, number, and location of the fibroid(s). Then depending on the size and location, your GP or OB/GYN can give them the best possible solution for getting rid of them. If they are big and in the way of other organs or if they are causing the woman many problems and complications, a doctor may suggest a surgery such as a myomectomy or hysterectomy. But if they are small, and they are not causing pain, heavy bleeding, or other symptoms, then their doctor could try shrinking them thru embolization or other invasive methods.

I was treated for Uterine Fibroids last year and I had a myomectomy (where they were surgically removed). I would recommend the surgery if the fibroids were very big, there were many of them, and they caused different symptoms such as heavy bleeding, infertility, and back pain.

Email me if you like to know a little more info.

Fibroids are excess fibrous tissues in muscles or subcutaneous tissue. Fibroids, interfere with the smooth fluid motions of the muscles & joints, kinda like if you had to weave around potholes or fallen trees when you drive. This interference with the movement of your body parts, places undue stress on the healthy parts of the body which are required to compensate, as well as in the affected part of your body.In which case you will have soreness, & fatique in many parts of your body Breaking up Fibrotic tissue is difficult, & in some cases not do-able. You may want to consult a massage therapist or physical therapist. There are a few things you can do on your own, if the fibrotic tissue can be broken up. It depends on the reason the fibrotic tissue is there. You may e-mail me if you want to know what those things are.
