If its films then definitely Basil Rathbone, But Jeremy Brett did a long running series on TV (some of them feature length) and probably played Sherlock Holmes more often

I think like most people, you WILL discover that Basil Rathbone appeared the most in the Sherlock Holmes films

Probably Basil Rathbone. He played Holmes in a series of movies in the 30s and 40s.
