My husband in general conversation about sex and other peoples sex lives and what they do is cool, exciting, etc, but when I try to be spontaneous and do something new and exciting, he seems to close up and get shy. We have great sex and its not boring but he seems to be shy when I try to be "dirty" or "nasty"

Hes your husband, talk to him! If he is being shy....then having some conversation about likes, dislikes and boundaries then he will be more comfortable when it actually happens!

He probably is okay with it when it is someone else, because it is at a distance. Don't take the initiative, you are probably intimidating him sexually when you do and that makes him shut down. Let him talk about it and stuff like that and let him know that if at some time he wants to try something that sounds interesting to the both of you, that you will let him initiate it. Let him think he is in control and set the pace. That way he will not feel like he has not control of it and will not feel like he is being intimidated...

It sounds like you might be trying to be too exciting. The next time it comes up in general conversation, when you get him alone, ask if that was something he'd like to try. He just might have been shocked that you initiated something.
