I wonder how many Jews in the U.S. are actively looking beyond living in a perpetual state of victimhood and working toward actually ending this illegal war and occupation in the Middle East.
Not a criticism, just a question. So don't get all huffy.

Jews in a perpetual state of victimhood? Didn't they create their own powerful country ? Atrocities committed by suicide bombers , murderers and terrorists...that are, anti west, anti Jew, anti Christian and anti womens rights and deal with others by killing them...you think that they wouldn't behead you too?

I think you mean the Palestinians, who are in the perpetual cycle of making themselves victims. Are you aware that close to a million Jews were forcibly evicted from Arab countries after WWII? Instead of standing at the border and whining for the past 60 years, like Palestinians have done, the Jews simply moved on.

Notice how Hezbollah continually told about all the casualties of the most recent war; yet, it later declared victory! Arafat turned down an extremely attractive package for the Arabs just a few years ago. In fact, the king of Saudi Arabia said the peace negotiation was so generous that it would be "a crime" for Arafat not to accept it. So, Arafat didn't. He liked the victim status and has played it to the hilt. Maybe now that he's dead, someone without that victim status attached to a spine will take charge and negotiate with Israel, who has been earnestly trying for decades.

Please read up on your facts because they're quite different from what the Palestinians want you to believe!

Atonement is a personal thing, where you atone for personal actions or inactions. You can't atone for others' actions.

As for victimhood - it is the whiny Palestinians and the rest of the whiny Arabs that have complained about Israel for 60 years now. The Palis are in perpetual victimhood status. Not sure what the hell an 'illegal' war is - must be one of those meaningless moron terms. The only 'illegal' war I've seen there is the continuous terrorist attacks on Israel.

Occupation? Get over yourself and your overblown rhetoric.

It IS a criticism. And it is pathetically obvious that it is.

Hell, I'm not even Jewish and I find your question offensive - mainly for it's intellectual dishonesty and glaring anti-Israel antagonism.

What do you mean by atone?
An individual should not be held responsible for the actions or others they have no influence over. I feel the idea that one group of people 'atoning' for the behaviour of others lets in the idea of punishing completely innocent people like that poor nun shot because of something the Pope said.
However I do agree that if you have a voice you can raise in protest about injustices, then you should.
I don't know who said that for evil to exist, all it needs is for good people to remain silent, but I feel that to be true, whether it is ignoring what has happened in the Middle East, or anywhere else.

Many more than you might think. After talking with a lot of Jewish-Americans I believe they are split on their support for the Iraq war unlike their bothers and sisters in Israel (but remember they were dodging Saddam's scuds so Iraq is a little more personal to them). It's mainly the hard core groups like AIPAC, US Neo Cons, and the right wing part of Israeli Govt. that wanted the US to invade Iraq and to now stay there as long as possible.

No one should ever have to atone for not allowing SAVAGES to kill them, not being huffy just making an observation based on fact.

Oh, okay.
I won't get huffy...if you won't!

So, my answer is no.
During both the Sunday evening service and all day yesterday, I prayed that the Palestinian & Hezbollah terrorists would stop killing innocent people.
That they would stop victimizing their own people and hiding behind them when they fire guns and rockets on innocent Israelis.
I prayed that the news media would stop being so biased against Israel.
And I prayed for people like you who seem to limit the scope of your intelligence into the pitiful belief that Israel is always wrong and the terrorists are always right.

It isn’t enough that Israel is the sole free nation in a region where the rule is death to non-believers.
It isn’t enough that while the Palestinian people and Hamas pretend to be victims, they reject offers of peace and compromise.
It isn’t enough that Hezbollah kills and captures Israeli soldiers.
And it isn’t enough for people like you who are ignorant to the facts.
You and your terrorist allies seem to wish death on anyone who doesn’t believe as you do.
We, on the other hand, aren’t bogged down in victim-hood.
We focus on life and peace…for ALL people of ALL faiths.

That certainly isn't a criticism and I ask you not to get all huffy, but rather open your eyes to the truth.

It's not for Jews as a general category to 'atone', you can be a Jew without being a Zionist and you can be a Zionist without supporting what Israel is doing.

I suspect that Jews in the USA, American citizens all, are atoning for Bush's torture and killing in Iraq. Not the "atrocities" by aliens in an alien country.
