Well I suppose if you wanted to CONFIRM if it was pirated, you could use a program like DVD shink or DVD decryptor to determine if the regional and copy protection codes have already been removed. DVD Shrink will also confirm the existance of dual layering which most pirated DVD's will not have.

I have an APEX DVD/VCR combo which includes a copy feature. However, it won't work if the DVD has the copy protection encoding on it. If you or a friend have a unit like this, this is another good "test" to see if the encoding remains.

Most people who pirate DVD's do NOT replace the encoding when they burn the DVD.

Those are just some suggestions.

Let's say he determines it is an illegal copy, what does he plan to do? I mean I seriously doubt you'll get your money back! I suppose at the very least he knows not to order any more DVD's from that source.

1 of the best ways to know if the color of the dvd on the back. if it is a silver color like a cd then its a good chance it isnt. if its purple or a light green then there is a chance that it is a copy and the dvd was blank before it was copied from the original.
